OpenAI provides mobile users with restricted access to ChatGPT Advanced Voice Mode.

OpenAI has officially begun rolling out a limited alpha version of its new **ChatGPT Advanced Voice Mode** on mobile devices. This feature allows users to engage in real-time conversations with ChatGPT using natural speech. The voice capability leverages a sophisticated text-to-speech model, which can generate highly realistic human-like audio using just a few seconds of sample speech. This innovation was developed in collaboration with professional voice actors to ensure quality and authenticity.

The **Voice Mode** feature is powered by OpenAI’s Whisper, an open-source speech recognition system that converts spoken words into text for seamless interaction. Additionally, users can now use this feature to have more dynamic and natural conversations with ChatGPT, including the ability to interrupt the AI mid-speech, enhancing the realism of the interaction.

Initially scheduled for a June release, the launch was postponed to July to address technical challenges and ensure a polished user experience. The rollout is being conducted gradually, starting with a limited group of ChatGPT Plus users for testing and feedback, before being expanded to a broader audience, including developers, later in the year. OpenAI emphasizes that this cautious, phased deployment is part of its commitment to safety, aiming to refine the feature and mitigate risks associated with advanced voice and vision technologies】.

OpenAI has announced the launch of a limited access feature called “ChatGPT Advanced Voice Mode” for its mobile app users, starting today. This new mode allows users to interact with ChatGPT via voice, enhancing the conversational experience beyond traditional text-based inputs. The feature is being rolled out gradually, with initial availability limited to select users as part of a broader test phase.

The Advanced Voice Mode builds upon existing speech-to-text and text-to-speech capabilities, offering more natural and fluid conversations. It is particularly designed for those who prefer hands-free interaction or have accessibility needs. Users can ask questions, seek advice, or engage in dialogue using just their voice, making it easier to use ChatGPT while on the go or in situations where typing is inconvenient.

OpenAI is expected to gather feedback from this initial rollout to refine the feature before a wider release. The addition of voice interaction marks a significant step in OpenAI’s efforts to make AI more accessible and integrated into daily life, catering to a growing demand for versatile and intuitive digital assistants.
